Casting Update: Taste
Casting is a process…
Great lead in right?
But it really is.
We have been heading down this path of casting Taste within this last month. And, between actors availabilities as well as where they lean creatively (along with a whole list of reasons), it's quite the process of finding the right actors for a film.
For Taste, we have already crossed off a few names for our two main roles, Chef and Quinn. And we are on the path to narrowing in our probably key actors.
Currently we are out to one for each role. They are:
Natalia Dyer (Best known as a main character on Stranger Things):
Natalia Dyer is an American actress known primarily for her role as Nancy Wheeler in the Netflix science-fiction drama series Stranger Things (2016). Her career began around the age of 12 in 2009 in the family comedic drama Hannah Montana: The Movie (2009), starring Miley Cyrus. It was not until her late teens that she landed her breakthrough role on Netflix's horror drama series Stranger Things (2016). On January 29, 2017, at the 23rd Screen Actors Guild Awards show, Dyer and the cast of 'Stranger Things' became co-winners for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series. Fans can see her in upcoming features including After Darkness (2014) and Mountain Rest (2018).
Tobias Menzies (Most notably from the series Outlander and The Crown):
Tobias was born in London. He graduated from the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA) in 1998 and began his acting career in popular UK series such as Foyle's War (2002), Midsomer Murders (1997), and Casualty (1986). He also appeared in the controversial drama A Very Social Secretary (2005). He is best known to international audiences as Marcus Junius Brutus in the television series Rome (2005).
He had a major film role in The Low Down (2000) with Aidan Gillen and featured in the 2006 reboot of the James Bond franchise, Casino Royale (2006). 2007 sees him appearing as William Elliot in ITV's production of Jane Austin's classic book, Persuasion (2007) and as Derrick Sington in the Channel 4 drama The Relief of Belsen (2007).
On TV, he guest starred on seasons 3 and 6 of HBO's Game of Thrones (2011) as Edmure Tully, and starred as Jack Randall and Frank Randall on Starz's Outlander (2014). He has played Philip, Duke of Edinburgh on the Netflix historical drama series The Crown (2016) since its third season.
On stage, his credits include the young teacher Irwin in Alan Bennett's The History Boys and Michael Blakemore's West End production of Three Sisters for which he was nominated for the Ian Charleson Award. He was a critically acclaimed Hamlet in Rupert Goold's Hamlet at the Royal Theatre.
Both are great actors, and their teams have responded favorably to the prospect of working on the film.
There is a lot more to get us to the end of the road. And maybe it doesn't work out and we go out to other actors. But overall, this gives you a Taste of where we are headed with the film, and the quality we aim for.
We will update you as discussions progress with actors and deals are signed. But, I think this is a great way to get insight on the process and where we are at.

Film Director
Director Dan Allen Secured for Taste
Great news, and a bit of a shift.
When we were introduced Taste as a potential new film/project for Three Legends Entertainment, there was already a director tentatively attached to it. That director, Colin Minihan, had been working with Emile Gladstone of bringing the project to the big screen. However, during negotiations on his deal, we weren't able to come to terms that worked for the project and the budget.
We then pivoted, and within 12 hours had secured a new director for the film.
Dan Allen is an up and coming UK director. He is known for creating ultra low budget films that out perform their scope and scale in quality when compared to their available resources. His latest film "Bambi: The Reckoning" is currently on Peacock. With a budget of only $400k, the quality of film he created elevates his low budget film to a level that secured it's current streaming deal, and in prominent on the streaming platform.
With a much larger budget on Taste, we feel we have what possibly could be a spring board opportunity to launch a young talented director into his breakout film.
Dan's deal has been fully executed, and we are in the process of working on securing his visa to work on the film here in the U.S.
Location Design/Scouting

Location Location Location
"Taste" Location design & Scouting
One of the first steps in the process of making this film is finding where we will shoot the film.
We already know that we will be shooting Taste in Louisiana, near and around New Orleans. Since our preferred method of shooting films is using actual locations instead of sets and studios, this means we must find these real life locations to fit our story and help to create the mood and narrative of the film.
Each location has to fit the scenes that our scripts call for. There is some artistic interpretation of what that may be, along with factoring what is available.
We have begun virtual location scouting with our team of location scouts. As soon as we are satisfied with what they have found, we will move to actual physical scouting. Meaning the producers and sometimes director will fly to the area, meet with our location scouts, and then view the properties in person to see if they make sense for the film.
For this film we have a few important locations needed. The ranch is the most important as this is where most of the movie takes place. Then we have locations such as Quinn's loft and the butcher shop and "kill room".
We hope to move to a physical scout here in the next few weeks. It is crucial that we settle on locations and book them to ensure they are available for our schedule and that meet our budget.

One of the first major steps in making a movie is securing the script. Today that was accomplished.
Writer David Cohen, who wrote this tale of sophisticated cuisine meets elite culinary horror, has signed his deal with Three Legends Entertainment to guarantee rights to Taste Film LLC.
With that, we move on to securing our director and actors for the film.
